Road rage with bite

A LOVER'S quarrel took a bizarre turn when a Blackwater woman sank her teeth into her partner while he was driving.

Heather Malone, 23, appeared in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Monday pleading guilty to charges of public nuisance, stealing and wilful damage.

The court heard that on January 3, an intoxicated Malone was picked up from a Blackwater premises by her boyfriend in a Central Highlands Regional Council (CHRC) vehicle. Police prosecutor Matthew Heelan said Malone attempted to reach for the steering wheel while the car was in motion, causing the driver to struggle for control of the vehicle. "The defendant has then bitten him a few times on the forearm, drawing blood," Mr Heelan said.

Mr Heelan said Malone broke the rear view mirror, before the man driving pulled over and got out. Mr Heelan said Malone struck the windscreen numerous times with a chard of the broken mirror until the windscreen shattered.

Malone, who was yelling abuse at her partner, then took two mobile phones, belonging to him, and fled.

The court heard that Malone told police she couldn't remember what her and her partner were arguing about, but that she wanted out of the relationship.

Magistrate Annette Hennessey fined Malone $1000 and ordered to pay $860 in restitution to the CHRC.
