Woman believed to be longest living person has died

THE woman believed to be the longest living person in modern day history died on the weekend.

Mariam Amash, an Arab/Israeli woman, was reportedly 124 when she passed away in her home village, 500 kms north of Tel Aviv.

Major Israeli newspapers reported Ms Amash's identity card stated she was born in 1888.

She had 10 children and 300 grand and great grandchildren.

If verified Ms Amash will be recorded as the longest living person.

The current leader is Frenchman Jeanne Calment who died in 1997, aged 122.
