OUR Lawrence Springborg is next in line to take the Premier's position if Campbell Newman does not win the seat of Ashgrove, according to the latest Galaxy Poll.

But, the Member for Southern Downs said he was confident Mr Newman would be the new premier come Saturday.

"I've said all the way, Campbell Newman will win that seat and I believe he should be Premier," Mr Springborg said.

He would not confirm or deny whether he wanted to take over the Premier role, but assured he was a team player and was ready for the LNP to govern.

"I want to be member for Southern Downs and part of Campbell Newman's government," he said.

"I am very, very determined to be a strong team player under Campbell Newman - I just want to see us in government."

Local concerns are that if Mr Springborg were to be elected Premier, would his commitment to the Southern Downs be weakened, but he said that would most definitely not be the case.

"I would strike a balance in my work as I do because regardless of my position, I have always made sure I can get to my electorate as much as possible."

Despite talk of the possibility of some LNP supporters shifting their vote to Katter's Australian Party, Mr Springborg was confident the votes would not be scraped from the LNP's ballot box.

"Voters will do what voters do - that's the beauty of democracy, but as far as I can see, a vote for Katter was a vote for Labor," Mr Springborg said.

"Polls have indicated that the LNP's vote has strengthened as this government (ALP) has let people down," he said.

"Any votes lost I think willbe from Labor, but you don't know until election date."

Mr Springborg denied the fact his seat was a safe one, but said the lack of motivation from some of the other candidates was concerning for locals.

"If you're not going to fight, what sort of local member are you going to be?" he said.

"Some of the other candidates have only been on this electoral roll since November last year and some still aren't even on the roll."

"I'm a fourth generation here; the Southern Downs is where it's at," Mr Springborg said.

A survey by the Daily News revealed many Warwick residents could not even name who the other candidates were, and not much was to be said about the candidates' attitudes towards winning the seat.Suzanne Kidman from the ALP said she was confident LNP would win the region's vote.

"It's such a huge electorate, there's no way we can get the votes," Ms Kidman said.

Much along the same lines, Family First candidate John Spellman didn't even bother campaigning and said he thought Mr Springborg would retain his seat.

"I work full-time and was asked to do interviews with TV, radio and other newspapers but I couldn't get to them because I had to work," Mr Spellman said.

"It will be interesting to see how many votes we get with nothing; no campaigning or anything.

"The Katter Party couldn't even get the name of the State LNP candidate right, and called him Cameron Newman in their media release yesterday - intentional or not.

"We'll just see what happens on Saturday," Mr Springborg said.
