Sunshine makes Coast cool place
WINTER woollies and ugg boots made an unexpected return to the Sunshine Coast this week as the temperatures dipped noticeably.
The Coast woke up to a chilly minimum of 16 degrees on Tuesday morning.
But that was nothing compared to the year-to-date low of 14 degrees recorded on Saturday in Maroochydore.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Kevin Hutchins said a combination of clear skies and a southerly air stream was to blame for the cool chill.
"That relatively dry air mass and clear skies just let the day's heat escape at night time," Mr Hutchins said.
"When it's cloudy, it acts like a blanket and keeps the heat in.
"We've got quite a slow-moving high pressure over the south of the continent and that tends to lead to fine weather."
Mr Hutchins said last night's temperatures were expected to drop to about 17 degrees but would pick up over the weekend.
"It should fall no lower than 18 degrees," he said.
The forecast for next week expects the minimum to remain at about 18.
"Then we should see a high-pressure system move east into the Tasman Sea and the airflow become more south-easterly than southerly," he said.
According to the bureau, the Coast can expect clouds at times today with a shower or two.
There will be moderate to fresh south-to-south-east winds, strong and gusty at times.
