FOR Biloela High School student Kristie Madsen, being named school dux was a nerve wracking experience.

"I was really nervous but very excited," Kirstie said.

"But I did really want to get it so I am glad I did."

The Year 12 student who studies biology, chemistry, BCT (business), economics, math B and english hopes to go to university next year to study vet science.

"I have wanted to be a vet since primary school and it's something I have always been interested in," Kirstie said.

"I did work experience in grade 11 at the vet clinic and I really, really, really loved it there. I just can't wait to get out there and do it."

Kirstie said the key to her success was trying her hardest in all her subjects and focusing on school work. She said she would suggest other students follow their interests to succeed.

"Try your hardest and focus on school because you need to and choose subjects you like because if you don't like it you won't try very hard."

Kirstie also received awards for biology, chemistry, economics, BCT and an excellence award.
