No getting past Adelaide's Galekovic

EUGENE Galekovic is a man of his word.

The Adelaide United captain and goalkeeper said he was keen to make amends for his blunder that caused the team to lose 1-0 against the Pohang Steelers in the AFC Champions League clash in South Korea two weeks ago - he certainly did at Hindmarsh Stadium on Wednesday night.

Galekovic was back to his best with a number of stunning saves to help his team beat the Steelers 1-0 and move one step closer to qualifying for the knockout stage for the third time in the club's history.

Bruce Djite headed in the winner in the 89th minute, and Galekovic was happy to play down his role.

"It's a team sport - defensively we performed really well," he said.

One of his important saves was not made with his hands or legs and it looked a pit painful, but Galekovic was happy to report all was fine.

"My job is to cover the goal as much as I can with all my body," he laughed.

The win means Adelaide will almost certainly be the only club flying the Aussie flag in the round of 16 following Brisbane's 2-1 loss against Ulsan Hyundai and Central Coast Mariners 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Seongnam Ilhwa.

Next Round:
May 1 - Central Coast v Tianjin Teda
May 2 -  Adelaide v Bunyodkor; FC Tokyo v Brisbane Roar
