Ladbrokes: Underwood Stakes seemingly a two-horse race

RACING: The Underwood Stakes is the feature race at Caulfield tomorrow and the betting market with Ladbrokes suggests it is a race in two between Black Heart Bart and Lucia Valentina.

Black Heart Bart was upstaged by stablemate Palentino in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m), but punters remain confident that he can bounce back to winning form over 1800m.

The distance is still a query for Black Heart Bart as he has never won at a distance greater than 1400m, but he was placed in the Cox Stakes over 2100m during his summer campaign.

Lucia Valentina is one horse that will not have any problems running out a strong 1800m and she is on the second line of Underwood Stakes betting markets.

She heads into the race with just the one lead-up run over 1400m in the Chelmsford Stakes, but that proved a remarkably successful formula when she blew away a strong field to win the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (1200m) during the 2016 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

The issue for Black Heart Bart and Lucia Valentina is that favourites have struggled somewhat in the Underwood Stakes in recent years.

No favourite has won the Underwood Stakes since the outstanding So You Think in 2010 and the likes of Lion Tamer (2011) and Mourinho (2015) have won the race at double-figure odds.

In fact, since 1983 only seven favourites have been successful and that indicates that the likes of Awesome Rock, Our Ivanhowe and He Or She could all be in the contest tomorrow.

The Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes is the other Group 1 event on the Caulfield card and it is a race where favourites have thrived in recent years.

Moment Of Change (2012), Rebel Dane (2013) and Trust In A Gust (2014) were all successful in the race as favourites and last year's punters elect, Disposition, finished a very close second behind Stratum Star.

The progressive Voodoo Lad is set to start the 2016 edition of the race as a narrow favourite from Under The Louvre, but it would not surprise to see a rare Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes upset.

The Underwood Stakes is always one of the most exciting races during the Spring Racing Carnival and you can score the best odds with Ladbrokes.

Ladbrokes is offering enhanced odds on every single runner in the Underwood Stakes, which means you can take advantage of the best possible price for Black Heart Bart, Lucia Valentina or any other runner in the Group 1 event.
