AUSTRALIAN Lleyton Hewitt has cruised into the third round of the men's tennis singles by defeating Croatian Marin Cilic in straight sets at the London Olympics.

Hewitt took the match 6-4, 7-5, but needed all his concentration as his opponent clashed on numerous occasions with the chair umpire.

The giant Croat was on the end of a number of line ball calls, the last at a crucial moment when Hewitt was serving for the match and Cilic had the chance of taking a 40-15 lead.

However, Hewitt managed to keep his focus and rounded out the match in an hour and 36 minutes.

Meanwhile, Hewitt and Sam Stosur have been granted a granted a wild card into the tennis mixed doubles competition.

The pair will take on Polish number four seeds Agnieszka Radwanska and Marcin Matkowski.
