AUSTRALIAN captain Michael Clarke had a day to forget in the fourth ODI against England at Chester-le-Street in Durham.
He lost the toss, he lost Shane Watson and Brett Lee to injury and the Aussies lost the game and the series.
With an ease that would have been quite unthinkable a few years ago, England cruised to an eight-wicket victory after chasing down Australia's nine for 200 with 13 balls to spare.
The result gave England an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series (game three was washed out).
It also completed England's ninth successive victory in completed ODIs - a new record for them - and secured their seventh successive series win at home.
Watson and Lee both suffered calf injuries in England's innings and both are unlikely to take part in the final match at Old Trafford tomorrow, leaving Lee stranded one wicket shy of Glenn McGrath's Australian ODI wicket-taking record.
Left-armer Mitchell Starc, playing county cricket with Yorkshire, may be called up as cover.
As he digested his first series defeat as Test or ODI captain, Clarke said he believed England got the better of conditions.
"That's what you have to do, against good opposition - in all different conditions around the world; you've got to find a way to have success. Unfortunately, once again today, we were outplayed," Clarke said. "But we've got one game to go, and I'd be very disappointed to go home without a win."
