A LOVE of having a hit of golf and being outdoors was passed down from Jess Weiki to his daughters Tahira and Rae.

And the girls are showing plenty of golfing prowess at their young age.

Eleven-year-old Rae has been named captain of the Central Highlands girls' team for the Greg Norman Junior Masters and her sister Tahira, 16, also gained selection.

"Both of them are playing this year, last year they played together as well," dad Jess said.

Jess said his daughters got into golf as it was a great way to get them outdoors and active.

"When we first came to Blackwater in 2008, they started playing here."

Though this is Rae's first time as captain, she has played in the junior masters for the past two years.

"In her role as captain she will play three days with the rest and has automatic entry into the fourth day of competition," Jess said.

"It's reserved for the top 20%, it's called making the cut after the third day."

The fourth day will be unchartered waters for Rae.

"She didn't make it when she was nine and last year she came close," he said.

Rae was named captain after the regional co-ordinators came together to discuss the decision, taking into consideration skills and results.

The junior masters is in the last week of school, on December 13, and is held at three different locations.

It is held at the Palmer Colonial for the first two days, the third day at the Robina Woods Palmer Golf Course and the fourth day at the Palmer Coolum on the Sunshine Coast.
