Clancy ousted as deputy Mayor
DESPITE leading the Shire during the 2010/11 flood crisis deputy Mayor Maureen Clancy was not voted back into the role.
At this morning's Banana Shire Council meeting Biloela based Councillor Warren Middleton was elected as deputy for the next four years - defeating Clancy by 4 votes to 3.
Clancy received the support of Vaughn Becker and new Mayor Ron Carige, while Middleton was backed by Crs Snell, Brennan and Ferrier.
Mayor Carige said Cr Clancy should be proud of her achievements as deputy Mayor over the past four years.
"Maureen you astound me.
"You've been in Local Government for 18 years and done a tremendous job not only representing your division but the entire shire and I think that Local Government owes you a debt of gratitude.
"You also deserve praise for the outstanding job you done as deputy Mayor."
Cr Clancy played a vital role during the flood crisis, when former Mayor John Hooper was isolated in southern Queensland.
