WITH more than a week to go in the election campaign, Michael Kitzelmann has knocked on 10,000 doors, worn out two pairs of boots, handed out 270,000 fliers and 23,000 business cards and shaken countless hands while losing 18kg.

More numbers? He turns 40 two days before the election next Saturday.

Possibly on a more sobering note, he gave up a $98,000 a year job to contest Labor's third-safest seat in the state.

The LNP candidate for Bundamba has announced a Dawn to Dusk listening tour to "demonstrate his commitment to being available to the people of Bundamba".

"I was endorsed as the LNP candidate in early 2011. Since then I've made it my mission to meet as many locals as I possibly can," he said. "I'm walking around introducing myself, handing out fliers and talking about the issues.

"I need the community to understand I'm there to listen.

"I've been door-knocking for the past year and held at least one mobile office in every suburb in the past three months.

"I couldn't hazard a guess how many people's hands I've shaken.

"It's phenomenal how many people I've met and I would have knocked on over 10,000 house doors. Not all of them were home but I left a flier."

The aim is to hand out nine types of fliers, and with about 30,000 voters enrolled, that means a total 270,000 house calls. He's down to the last 2000 of 25,000 business cards so he's starting to keep them a bit closer to his chest.

He said the long road to election day was taking its toll.

"I'm on my third pair of boots. This time I've bought RM Williams because they're meant to last a lifetime," he said.

"I thought when politicians spoke about wearing out shoe leather it was just a saying.

"I've also lost 18kg.

"I lost a $98,000 a year job with the premier's department and I'm using a lot of my own money for this campaign because I'm dedicated to making a difference in this electorate."
