AN improved bus timetable will be the new face of public transport in the Rockhampton region.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads together with Sunbus and Transit Australia Group are introducing a new Rockhampton bus network which will be launched on Monday, January 21. Sunbus operations manager John Cadamy has been in the transport industry for 12 years.

Mr Cadamy said it's been 20 years since the last reconstruction to the network which is why there were issues with public transport in the past few years.

"The new timetable and bus routes will improve the previous issue of late runnings," he said. "It will streamline networks, navigate through the network and greatly improve the safety of school children who catch buses before and after school."

Mr Cadamy said school children, middle-aged residents and pensioners are most frequent users of public transport.

For local residents routes will be simpler and in many cases more direct. Route numbers have changed to a more simplistic system that will improve reliability and make services safer and easier to use.

These changes will also impact all Qconnect routes including school services and some bus stop locations in Rockhampton.
