April airport traffic up by 20,000

GOLD Coast Airport has recorded an increase in passenger numbers with an extra 20,000 travellers passing through the doors in the month of April.

Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) saw a total of 450,876 passengers use the airport which is an increase of 5.4% over April last year.

Domestic travellers increased by more than 18,000 while international passengers increased by more than 4,000.

QAL managing director Dennis Chant said the group is pleased to see the growth in passenger numbers.

"Both Easter and school holidays fell at the beginning of April which led to an increase in leisure and visiting friends and relatives passenger traffic," he said.

Mr Chant said the group's two other QAL-owned and operated airports also saw passenger numbers increase.

"Townsville Airport enjoyed modest growth this month as did the Airport in Mount Isa."

Collectively throughout the month of April more than 600,000 passengers travelled through Gold Coast, Townsville and Mount Isa QAL Airports which was an increase of 4.4% over the same period of last year.
